Spark Energy
Brand Design and Development
It's not often you get the chance to design a brand for an electricity and gas company, competing against the likes of British Gas and Scottish Power, so when we were approached to look into working on this project we were really "energised!!!"
Spark has a number of unique selling points. It will always be cheaper than Scottish Gas and Scottish Power, it is aiming to offer 80% green fuel within 5 years and it is based on a company philosophy of 'like speaking to like'. If you're a student, your Spark service provider is one too. If you're retired, then their retired, too. This means that you are treated with empathy when you have a problem, and can explain your requirements to someone in a similar boat to yourselves.
The branding and corporate style therefore has to appeal to every demographic category, but still has to stand out as a lively, vibrant brand rather than a wishy-washy 'me too' offering. Something that could have been watered down so much that it no longer had a brand personality of its own. PJ Darling, our client, was exactly the opposite of this. From original concept, to the final signed off identity took two stages of development, and kept all of the original freshness and vibe that is often lost through multiple changes and tweaks.
We then looked at developing a theme throughout the marketing and sales material that was also bright and vibrant, and could become a constant theme.
Founder of Spark, PJ Darling, said that Zero, “have taken a fairly wide-reaching brief and delivered against the strategy perfectly. It’s rare to have a creative team be mindful of strategy while still delivering leading creative. It’s been a very rewarding experience throughout.”
