The Scottish Literary Agency

Children's Book Design

We've now designed a number of Children's books for the Scottish Literary Agency (www.scottishliteraryagency.co.uk ) including the first two books in the Michelle series.

These books are written by the children's author, Julie Hegarty, and tell the story of Michelle, a scallop who lives in the sea and has loads of friends with different problems. It is aimed at children aged from 3 to 7.

With the first book, the team at Zero took the previously published 'Michelle in Crabbit Comes to Stay' and re-designed the layout giving the new book a much more visually creative feel, something to be developed across the series. By taking the target audience into consideration, Zero have come up with a new look which is much more appealing to its readers and has vastly improved the visual effectiveness of the book. The enchanting illustrations by Ritchie Collins are now supported by a creative typestyle and 'designed' emphasis, which brings the story to life and integrates the text with the pictures to make for a book with considerably more impact than when first published.

Michelle - the Rock Concert is the latest instalment in the Michelle series and is even better than the first. Michelle is joined in this story by her favourite pop star, Harmony and her group the Slippery Fish in this exciting story.

If anyone's interested, the books are available at all good book shops including Waterstones and Borders.
