The Incorporation of Goldsmiths of the City of Edinburgh
Brochure Design
Zero have just finished designing the accompanying brochure for a new exhibition that is to travel round the world later this year. Entitled "Silver of the Stars" The exhibition is organised by the Incorporation of Goldsmiths of the City of Edinburgh, and is the result of a collaboration between 10 famous Scots, and 10 Silversmiths who together have designed and crafted a unique collection of silverware inspired by the celebrities. The total collection is valued at £1m with the individual pieces estimated at £50,000 each.
The Exhibition is currently in residence at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and The National Museum of Scotland will host the exhibition for several months from January 2008, after it has visited New York, St Petersburg, Beijing and Kyoto. With the likes of Sean Connery, Ewan McGregor and Robbie Coltraine featured, the exhibition should attract a great deal of interest both home and abroad.
The brochure itself is printed in full colour plus a spot silver, and features a different celebrity and artist on each spread, along side their pieces.
McColl Productions looked after the printing of the brochure, and Lex (McColl) used a number of cutting-edge technologies including the latest precision 3D routing technology (eliminating the need for acid engraving with it's hazardous waste issues) for embossing the cover and Stacatto (FM) screening technology throughout the inside pages to ensure subtle detail, smooth tonal values and vignetttes were maintained in the photography of the silver pieces.
