Douglas Laing & Company Ltd

Clan Denny Whisky

2006 saw the launch of a new member of Douglas Laing and Company's "Clan Denny" range of Whiskies. Douglas Laing specialise in both traditional limited bottlings and 'gift whiskies', and produce a number of ceramic packaged whiskies as 'Gifts from Scotland'.

We were set a very interesting brief.

The company has 2000 or so empty bottles with the JPS (John Players Special) monogram moulded into the glass, and no market left in which to sell them. Can we come up with a solution to this problem, and create artisan style packaging with a distinctly 'hand made' feel?

Armed with an empty bottle and a blank sheet of paper, we set about creating a design that both excited the client, and also excited us. We obviously wanted to make the product look as unique and distinctive as possible, but with a tight brief and input throughout from our client, we also had to fulfil his market requirements and ultimately his choice. From his reaction and support throughout, I'm sure we managed this.

"Working with Zero Design has been a real eye-opener and very refreshing.  Their enthusiastic and capable young team have brought an interesting and unique input to our meetings which reflected positively on our eventual finished pack for the CLAN DENNY Scotch Malt Whisky project.    Beyond the bubbly, youthful and enthusiastic approach, evident on the initial pitch, we detected a professional and careful approach to all matters - responsive to our different requirements as the job processed, and with evidently much behind scenes and back-room work of quality being carried out.  We will undoubtedly use ZERO DESIGN again at the first possible chance.”
